Beallair History
Beallair is one of seven homes associated with the Washington family in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. George Corbin Washington, a grandnephew of George Washington, married Elizabeth Beall in 1807. Their son Lewis Washington took up residence at Beallair in 1840 and was living there as a gentleman farmer in 1859 at the time of John Brown's Raid. After living in France for two years, he returned to Beallair in 1865 and died there in 1871. The estate passed through several owners plus a stage of neglect, and was bought in 1980 by Mr. and Mrs. Don Kennard, who made many improvements. Beallair is in The National Register of Historic Places under its original spelling, Beall-Air. In 2004 the Wormald Corporation purchased Beallair from the Kennards and began developing the Beallair properties. The first homeowners moved in to Beallair in 2007.
